Delilah is matriarch of the herd. I haven't kept many older does; the younger ones are such an improvement that as the breeding program progresses, they replace their dams and granddams. This makes Delilah a noteworthy exception. At eight years old, having experienced several bouts of mastitis and udder injuries, a number of difficult births -two with 13-14# kids, and one with a dead, decomposed kid in which I was thankful she even survived (!) and a C-section, she still peaks at 10-12 lbs of milk from an even, pliable and reasonably well attached udder, and holds her own in the herd dynamics. She's a strong, tough doe, a survivor.

Time has taken it's toll on her though, and the birth with the dead kid left her with a lot of cervical/vaginal scarring. The result of this is that she can no longer be A.I.'d or kid naturally (without a C section) even though she has a wide, roomy pelvis and rump. I haven't yet decided whether or not to breed her. If I do, she will likely be bred to Rhodium and all doelings will be retained as I have only one daughter to show for all her years with us. Bucks will be available if requested in advance.
